Ampal Creative
Los Angeles, United States · since 2007
Unstructured caps sewn in the United States from deadstock cloth, one fit for most heads.
The Ampal Creative is a cap maker from Los Angeles. Andrew Potash launched its first full collection in 2007 with his partner Gregg Shaw, after finding the headwear on offer thin and repetitive, and since 2010 every piece has been made in the United States.
The caps are unstructured five- and six-panel shapes with a low crown, and the brand used a single fit for its first six years because it suited most heads. The cloth is bought from local jobbers and mills, often as one roll of deadstock that is cut until it runs out: corded cotton, wool with rugby stripes, waxed cotton, salt-and-pepper herringbone. Straps are leather and brass or nylon and plastic. Beanies, socks and patches sit beside the caps, and the brand has made hats for Danner and a run of small collaborations.
Why we stock Ampal Creative
A cap is the one piece of clothing most people wear on the way to work and never think about. These are sewn in Los Angeles from cloth bought by the roll, in a shape that fits almost everyone, at a price that does not punish wearing it every day. It is the first headwear here, and we chose it for the cloth.
The first Ampal Creative pieces arrive in Barcelona with Supply 001, in Oct 2026.
